WHEN DOES YOUR LAWN NEED AERATION?
Over time, the top few inches of soil in any lawn will inevitably get compacted. Mowing or just walking across it contribute to this process. So does rain — consider how soft the ground can get when it’s wet. As a result of these factors, it’s more difficult for air, water, and nutrients to reach the root system of your lawn. The problem is exacerbated if your soil was dense to begin with, and it’s worst emerging from winter, when the soil might have frozen and thawed multiple times. We offer aeration services in the spring, when it’s needed most. When your lawn is moist, we use a specially designed tool with hollow tines to dig into your turf and remove thousands of cylinders of soil measuring about half an inch in circumference. These “plugs” are left on the grass to dry for a while before being dispersed with a mower to add nutrients back into the lawn.
