4 Steps for a Healthy Lawn This Spring
Spring is the time of the year when everything starts growing again. Unfortunately, that includes weeds and other problem grasses that effect the overall look and health of your yard.
One of the most important services we offer is our Spring Pre-Emergent. A Pre-Emergent treatment is a liquid treatment that prevents the germination of problem grasses or weeds like crabgrass, spurge, burn weed and other problem weeds. The most common type of Pre-Emergent service is crabgrass treatment because most of the time, crabgrass is more easily prevented than treated and it’s very common in the southeast.
Here’s a checklist to ensure your lawn is ready for the growing season
- Get a Pre-Emergent for Southern Lawns: As we mentioned above, prevention is the best cure for any problem weeds and/or grasses that may negatively effect your lawn’s health.
- Fertilize: Because each lawn and type of grass is different we recommend consulting a professional when considering a fertilization program. A professional can tell you the best time and products to be used on your lawn, based on your lawns specific needs.
- Cut your Grass: Get your first mow of the spring done. Because you never want to remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade during the growing season, you can go ahead and get your lawn to your desired height (between an 1.5 and 2.5 inches for most lawn types). Cutting your yard to an optimal height can also decrease the thatch or built-up decomposing grass and also remove any old growth, allowing for new growth.
- Irrigation and Watering: With the warm weather months approaching now would also be the time to make sure that you begin watering your grass. Best-practices are to give your lawn roughly an inch of water each week. This will ensure that the lawn is getting the proper amount of water it needs to grow and reach its full potential.
