Refresh Your Outdoor Décor for Fall
If you’re a homeowner who values the appearance of your property, you’ve spent time and money to maintain the health of your lawn, ornamental trees, and shrubs. You want them to look their best as late into autumn as possible, and you want to spend as much time in your yard as you can. Here are a few tips to bring out the natural beauty of your landscape and maximize your enjoyment of it as the seasons change.
Garlands – Usually the word “garland” evokes the long metallic streamers hung on Christmas trees. We’re not referring to those shiny gold and silver decorations. Garlands can also be fashioned from materials commonly found outdoors in the fall, such as oak leaves and acorns. Some appropriate materials, like miniature pumpkins and gourds, may be harder to find outdoors but can easily be purchased. The results can hang over an entryway, frame a doorway, or add visual appeal to railings on a porch or deck.
Centerpieces – We’re sure you follow the common advice to prune your shrubs and ornamental trees regularly. During most of the year, the resulting clippings are discarded, but in the fall, long, slim branches can be combined in a vase to bring the beautiful colors of the season to any table, indoors or outside.
The Fall Palette – Speaking of colors, decorative furniture and accent materials in the muted earth tones of fall go on sale earlier every year. Decorative flags, seat cushions, tablecloths and napkin sets, umbrellas, and welcome mats are among the many, many options.
A Cozy Corner – Don’t rush to put your outdoor furniture away. A few throws – ideally in seasonally appropriate colors like gold, deep red, and burnt orange – will ensure comfort on fall evenings and weekend mornings. Stay even warmer by moving furniture into sunlit areas, or consider installing a fire pit.
Flowers – Your fall container gardening choices aren’t limited to mums. Potted violas, pansies, and marigolds also thrive in the autumn.
You invest in lawn care because you value the time that you can spend enjoying the beauty of a well-maintained landscape. These are just a few of the ways that you can keep your lawn an attractive, comfortable place to socialize with family and friends beyond the end of summer.
