Refresh Your Outdoor Living Space for Warmer Weather
Early spring is the right time to prepare your outdoor living space for a new year of relaxation and entertaining. If you don’t already have one of these areas set up, now’s the time to start thinking about and assembling yours to use later in the year. You invest time, energy, and money to keep your lawn lush and beautiful. An outdoor living space allows you to spend more time enjoying it up close with your family and friends. Here are a few ideas to get you started or to give your existing space a fresh new look.
Add some potted plants. Add visual (and fragrant) interest to your space with colorful flowering plants and containers. Consider the amount of sunlight that the area gets and arrange (or rearrange) plants accordingly. Plenty of low-maintenance options are available. Containers are also convenient for growing herbs. Thyme, parsley, rosemary, mint, and cilantro are popular choices that will not only look and smell appealing but also season your outdoor meals.
Consider installing a fire pit. If you want to spend as much time as possible outdoors on spring and fall evenings, a fire pit will take the edge off any chill. Arrange some seating around it or nearby to enjoy games and meals. After all, you can also cook with it. Kids are sure to enjoy roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over the flames.
Brighten the space with lighting. Another addition that will make extended evenings in your yard more pleasant is appropriately arranged lighting. Many options, from string lights to battery-powered candles to lanterns, are available, allowing you to fine-tune the level of brightness you’re comfortable with.
Add more color with outdoor furnishings and accents. To brighten up your patio or porch, combine some outdoor rugs, throws, and pillows in your seating area. There are countless mildew-resistant, easy-to-clean choices in every style and color you can imagine.
Get your lawn ready. Of course, the point of all this effort is to spend more time enjoying your yard. Ideally, you’ll be able to minimize foot traffic, but part of the pleasure of having a lawn is using it. Warmer weather and longer days present too many opportunities for family fun to resist. So make sure your grass is at its healthiest and hardiest with all of the appropriate spring care. Talk to your lawn care company about treatments for fire ants and mosquitos. Keep your yard appropriately fertilized, and follow the best mowing and watering practices for your specific variety of grass. Grass that is well cared for will experience less damage from use and bounce back from that damage more quickly.
No matter the size of your lawn, you can create an attractive, comfortable outdoor space that your family and guests can enjoy throughout the spring and summer and even into the fall. If you have questions about keeping your lawn resilient and beautiful, we at Southern Lawns are always happy to help.
